A Study on the Heaptitis B Markers of Pregnant Women and Their Infants in Yeoju Area



Abstract
This study was performed to analyse for prevalence of surface antigen(HBs Ag), other serologic markers and the effect on viral hepatitis B to pregnancy among total 558 cases who were admitted in Korea university medical center, Yoeju hospital,
from
January, 1988 to December, 1989.
1. The prevalence of HBs Ag of 558 pregnant women in Yoeju hospital was 5.38%(30/558), and that of 443 pregnant women in Haewha hospital 4.97%(22/443).
2. The incidence of Hbe AG and anti Hbe in HBs Ag positive months were 52.4%(11/21) and 28.6%(6/21), respectively. Hbe Ag and anti Hbe were both negative in 19.1%(4/21).
3. The incidence of HBs Ag positive infants born to the HBs Ag positive mothers was 23.8%(5/21) in Yeoju hospital.
4. In the newborn born to the HBs Ag positive mothers, the average birth weight was 3.12 Kg, the average length of gestation was 38.4 weeks. And in the newborn born to the HBs Ag negative mothers the average birth weight was 3.27 Kg, the average
length
of gestation was 38.9 weeks.
5. In HBs Ag positive mothers, the incidence of premature delivery was 16.7%(5/30), premature rupture of membrane was 6.7% and low birth weight for gestational age was 3.3%(1/30).
